As the name suggests, jazz is the prime corner stone of this brand new musical quartet. The mixture of other genres intertwined within the original compositions, gives The Jazzy Devils a unique sound, thus a little" Devilish" in nature, off the beaten path. Presently based in the Bay Area, the band was founded by Peter Cor (Santa Cruz), keyboards and compositions. Gary Regina saxes, (Pacific Grove), on bass, Roxy McDaniel, and Renato Annicchiarico on percussion both from Santa Cruz, and Chris Miller from San Jose, rounds out TJD. |
The blend of all these musical experiences by the members of TJD help create an upbeat mixture of rhythms and melodies that will get your toes tapping for sure! |
by Sandy Shore of Smoothjazz.com Another score for Northern California... Monterey Bay area primarily. Founder/composer, Peter Cor (formerly Helios) put together some of the area's hottest players with this new ensemble specializing in sizzling hot Jazz (smooth and fusion). Fellow Pagrovian, Gary Regina on saxes (he often plays two at a time), Roxy McDaniel (Santa Cruz) on bass, Renato Annicchiarico (Santa Cruz) on percussion and Chris Miller (San Jose) on drums. Cor, a native New Yorker is a prolific writer who understands the importance of melody. The transplanted keyboardist blends his classical training with Latin, funk, hip hop and world music... Quite a concoction. Peter Cor has written material for Earth, Wind & Fire, Lee Ritenour, Tuck & Patti and many European artists as well as film and TV pieces (Disney, Bernie Mac Show, etc.). Members of the Jazzy Devils are all accomplished players... You can learn more about them on the JD website. The quintet may be calling themselves devils, but their music is rather heavenly... As far as the smooth grooves go anyway... Like the Spyro Gyra-esque "The Cad" and the super sax-infused, "Gone Funkin'" and the Smoothjazz.com Hotpick, "Night Groove", BURNING BRIDGES captures a piece of the Monterey Bay. The funkier and larger tunes, like "Big Air", "Spunk", "7th Avenue" and "Souldad" are devilish for sure and will most definitely appeal to fusion fans near and far. Regardless of the lack of commitment to commercial Smooth Jazz on the local radio airwaves, Monterey Bay is indeed all about the full spectrum of jazz and the Jazzy Devils embody this truth with their excellent debut effort. ~Sandy Shore |
